The Legendary Lincoln Hills will finally have its official place in Colorado history! The celebrated land, sanctuary and country club resort for African-Americans during the 1920’s — 1960’s will be featured in Denver’s forthcoming, extraordinary state history museum formally named ‘History Colorado Center’.
The state-of-the-art museum, located downtown on Broadway, is a high-tech, interactive institution like no other in the country. The massive building, built using state-mined sandstone and other natural materials, is a bright & airy four-story atrium with lots of skylights & windows with scenic mountain views. Inside the museum is a giant video display screen & Colorado map embedded in the floor. Visitors will be educated, enlightened and entertained by an amazing virtual time machine and several interactive, automated mechanisms, displays, traveling exhibits and rare artifacts.The Center will also feature executive areas for weddings, receptions, conferences, events or meetings that will be available for rent year-round.
Lincoln Hills, Boulder Canyon, Wink’s Lodge and other related — and seldom recognized — historical treasures from the time period will be showcased in a major exhibit area named ‘Colorado Stories’; alongside displays on Keota, the Air Force Academy and Camp Ameche, the WWII Japanese internment camp. Finally Lincoln Hills, a staple of Colorado’s African-American heritage, will be exposed to all visitors.
Through authentic photos, images, information and relics, History Colorado Center will become an ideal location for learning the true history of Lincoln Hills. People will discover the outstanding individuals and community that built, maintained, protected and supported the land in a time of segregation, oppression and great adversity. History Colorado Center will be open to the public in May 2012.
